Learn English in the UK on one of our Summer English Courses
The summer months are a great time to visit Portsmouth and our summer courses run from June until August. LSI/IH Portsmouth is even livelier than usual during these summer months and you can make the most of being so close to the beach whilst still enjoying everything that a city can offer. Although we offer the same courses throughout the year, many of our students decide to visit LSI/IH Portsmouth for shorter courses during this time (minimum 2 weeks). We keep classes small, even in the Summer time, and make sure that there are no more than 12 students per classroom, so all our students receive the same high level of personal care and attention. There are no lessons on a Friday afternoon so you’ll be free to explore Portsmouth in the sunshine!

Which English language course should I choose this summer?
Full-time General English Course
Our General English courses are suitable for everyone, whether you want to study English for work, for your studies or simply for personal interest. Our General English course has a main focus on communication, and offers our students plenty of opportunity to practise using new grammar and vocabulary.
Cambridge Exam preparation Course
We offer the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and Cambridge Advanced exam (CAE) preparation courses all year round – including throughout the Summer period. In addition, we also offer the Cambridge Proficiency exam (CPE) preparation course in the Summer meaning that we will always be able to guarantee a high level class. Receiving a Cambridge certificate may be valuable for your studies or professional career development, and is a well-known and internationally recognised qualification.
Our book-based syllabus is geared towards helping you pass the exam, and our highly qualified teachers incorporate a wide range of materials and activities into the lessons to make sure the lessons are dynamic and engaging. Please note that we do not offer the Cambridge proficiency exam during the summer, but the course will give you all the necessary skills and preparation to give you the best start towards the exam.
IELTS Exam Preparation
Our IELTS exam preparation course is an intensive course which aims to provide you with the skills you need for the Cambridge IELTS exam. We understand the time pressure you may have and our intensive programme has been designed with this in mind. LSI/IH Portsmouth is one of the few independent language schools to have been approved by the British Council as an official IELTS testing centre. This means if you choose to prepare for your IELTS exam with us, you can also take the test here if you do not need your certificate for UK visa purposes. Accommodation:
Do you need somewhere to stay while you study this summer in Portsmouth? We are happy to help! We offer two types of accommodation: living in a local homestay family or living with other LSI/IH Portsmouth students in our nearby self-catering accommodation.
Social Programme:
What better way to practice and improve your English than by making friends on the LSI/IH Portsmouth summer Social programme? It is full, varied, and fun! It changes every week, includes Saturday excursion trips and is there to meet the needs of all students.
