What are our Closed Group Courses?
A ‘Closed Group’ consists of participants from the same company or organisation with compatible language levels and training needs. This option allows us to concentrate on the specific professional and linguistic needs which are particular to the group, and to introduce authentic materials from the client company. The maximum participants per group is six.
Who is our Closed Group Course for?
Trainees from the same company with a similar level of English and training needs. Companies who want to encourage team-building and bonding. Groups who may wish to only have lessons in the morning or outside our normal timetable hours.

Communication Skills on our Closed Group Courses
Following a very thorough needs analysis of the group’s requirements, the relevant professional vocabulary, register, grammatical structures and pronunciation that are needed for the particular students is incorporated into their course.
Classroom learning incorporates many different activities from roleplays, formal grammar lessons, case studies and use of video and audio equipment.
Very often in our Business English courses the focus is on practical & effective business English for professionals in communication and may include the function language and skills for:
- Meetings and Teleconferencing
- Negotiations
- Presentations
- Telephoning
- Socialising and Networking
- E-mail, Letter and Report Writing
- Cross-cultural awareness
- International leadership and management
- Specialist vocabulary development
However, the closed group course will be focussed on whatever area is the specific requirement of the particular group.
What is the Closed Group Course duration/programme?
Course duration can be for between 1 and 4+ weeks (2 weeks is the average).
The programme is highly intensive and includes 25 contact hours plus 5 to 10 self-access study hours plus 7.5 hours social English over optional teacher accompanied lunch per week plus optional evening social activities (such as restaurants, guided tours, live music, cultural events). The students have the opportunity to not only study English but to work on specialised needs necessary for their roles and organisation.
Accommodation
An Executive language stay will expose you to native speakers while learning about the culture in England, and provides an opportunity to network and build long-term friendships. They offer high levels of comfort and convenience often with current or retired professionals.
Social Programme
LSI/IH Portsmouth’s Executive Social Programme and its tutor accompanied lunch system, provides opportunities to practise social English. The optional evening social programme is full and varied and may include visits to restaurants, pubs, live music venues, theatres, cinemas, museums and many sporting activities.
