Police Registration Information for Students Studying at LSI/IH Portsmouth

 

Who must register with the police?

Nationalities of any of the countries written in the Immigration Rules Appendix 2 are required to register with the police if the requirement is written on your visa ‘vignette’ (sticker in your passport) or on the letter you get from the Home Office when your visa application is decided.

Police registration for international students

You will need to go to the Police Headquarters in Winchester, another city which is a 40 minute train journey from Portsmouth.

The police station is a 10 minute walk from Winchester train station.

How do I register with the police?

If you already have a police registration certificate, even if this is for another area of the UK, please go to the section of this webpage about updating an existing police registrationIf you last left the UK over one year ago, you do not need a new police registration certificate.

To register with the police for the first time or if you have lost your police registration certificate, book an appointment by following the instructions.

If you and your Dependants aged 16 or over are required to register with the police, you must each book your own individual appointment. If you do not book an appointment, you will not be able to register.

Step 1: Visit  https://foreignnationals-thamesvalleypolice.uk/

Step 2: Create an account

You will need to use your email address to register your account.

Step 3: You will receive a verification email

You must click on the link to verify your email within 1 hour of receiving it.

Step 4: Log in and enter all of your details

Please have ready before you start: Passport, BRP, Address Details, Phone Number and an uploadable digital Photo.

Complete each section and upload a passport style photograph. You have 20 minutes to complete your details and submit them before you are timed out (there is no warning for this.)

Step 5: Book your registration appointment

Once you have entered all of your details successfully, the system will ask you to book an appointment. Choose the registration venue entitled: “Hampshire Registration”. Hampshire Registration – Winchester Nationalities Office is the nearest venue.

Step 6: Attend your appointment to complete your registration

You must ensure you bring the necessary documents otherwise the police will not be able to register you. When you successfully complete your registration, you will be given your Police Registration Certificate which you must keep safe. If you loose your Police Registration Certificate you will have to start the process again and return to register for a new one.

 

What should I bring with me to my police registration appointment?

• £34 (we encourage you to pay with a credit or bank card, they do not have change)

• Your passport and visa (BRP Card)

• Home Office decision letter

• Proof of your address (housing contract)

• Proof of Study – Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement.

 

Changing your personal details with the police

If you fail to keep your police registration certificate up to date, you will be issued with a warning.

If you have been out of the UK for 12 months or longer, you will be required to obtain a new Police Registration Certificate on arrival in the UK.

 

Updating an existing police registration

If you make any of the following changes, you must update your Police Registration Certificate:

• Change of address

• Change of marital status

• Change or extension of visa

• New passport

• New course or change of school/university

• Change of nationality

• Change of employment, business, profession, or occupation.

You will need to go to the local police station on Winston Churchill Avenue with your Police Registration Certificate for updating.
