Did you know that Portsmouth has more pubs per square mile than any other city in the UK? It’s true. We don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but what it does do is give an excellent choice of place to go for a drink. (Proof here)
We asked Catt our lovely General English social programme organiser which she thought were the most popular pubs with some of our students, and below are the results.
The Vaults
No matter whether it’s day or night, The Vaults is always worth a visit. It is located on Albert Road in the centre of Southsea along with several other pubs, bars and restaurants. They offer a large variety of drinks from over 70 crafted beers and spirits to excellent wines. Don’t miss the live Jazz/Folk music every Tuesday!
The Fat Fox
Every big sporting event is an even greater experience if you watch it surrounded by other sports fans. The Fat Fox shows the Premier League, Champions League, NFL, F1 and more. Equipped with 5 HD Screens and 2 90” HD Projectors you won’t miss a single second of the action. On days without an event, you can also play a game of pool or just relax at the bar with your friends. You can either have a small snack or a big hearty meal.
The Honest Politician
Looking for a nice game of pool? Pay a visit to the Honest Politician and you won’t be disappointed. There are pool tables which can be used for free during the week, pinball machines and table football! This pub is the perfect place to meet with friends and have a nice little chat in a relaxing atmosphere. The pub is mainly visited by other students which allows you to meet local people!
Lord John Russel
If you are tired of just sitting in a pub and having a drink, then you ought to visit The Lord John Russel, located in Albert Road. They offer a large variety of free board games which you can play with your friends. Pay them a visit on Tuesdays, to profit from the 2 for 1 Burger offer. Check out their website for other events!
Yates
Not only do they offer tasty burgers and the opportunity to watch big sports events. They also offer a “Cocktail Masterclass”, where you and at least four of your friends are taught how to mix a small choice of drinks. You can also book special tables for parties and all occasions! With regular special events and offers, it’s always a great experience to visit Yates!
