It is a good idea for every student to have a mobile phone so that you can stay in touch with friends and family while you are in Portsmouth and also for us to be able to contact you in an emergency.
Local phone calls are much cheaper if you use an English SIM card, which are FREE and available from Reception. Often you can just buy the SIM card and put it in your own phone (although sometimes this isn’t possible with mobile phones from some countries).
If you do need to buy a new phone, you can usually buy one for less than £20.00 (which includes the SIM card). There are several mobile phone shops on Commercial Road and they should tell you which networks have the best prices for you.
To top up your mobile phone with credit, you can buy vouchers from many newsagents and supermarkets. Phone cards are available to buy from Post Offices and some newsagents (look for a sign in the shop window).
